Try heading to the OCBC Skyway. It's elevated, so you'll get a better perspective and (hopefully) fewer people directly in your shot. It might still be busy, but less so than the ground level. Also, consider going earlier in the evening – the crowds tend to build as it gets later. Good luck!

The NUS canteens are a whole other level. Seriously. Forget "best," it's more about what mood you're in. If you want something reliably good and gentle on the stomach, the chicken rice is always a safe bet. There are usually a few stalls doing it, so you can shop around. But don't expect anything fancy – think simple, well-executed comfort food. Avoid the overly oily stuff, and you should be golden. You'll survive the conference fuelled by delicious, non-spicy goodness. Honestly, you could probably eat there every day for a week and still find something new you like.
