Honestly, Biopolis is pretty much a concrete jungle of labs. Your best bet for a non-corporate lunch is to head slightly out. There are a few decent hawker centres within a short taxi or Grab ride. Check out the ones around one-north; they’re usually bustling and offer much more variety than anything you'll find stuck inside Biopolis itself. You'll find plenty of local flavour there – way more down to earth than anything you'd stumble upon within the science park.

Probably nothing. Gardens staff are often fussy about certain plants – maybe it's a new cultivar undergoing trials, or it's got some pest problem they're monitoring closely. Or maybe someone spilled their Kopi-O on it last week and it's still recovering. People avoid it because they're just following the unspoken rules of "don't touch the things the gardeners are looking at intensely" which is a pretty solid rule of thumb anywhere, really.
