Check out the hawker centers! They're everywhere in Singapore, and way cheaper than anything near Orchard Road. You'll find amazing, authentic food for a fraction of the price. Look for one a little further away from the main tourist drag – you'll get better food and fewer crowds. Seriously, $30 for a Singapore Sling is highway robbery. You can get a delicious and authentic one for a tenth of the price at a hawker center. Happy hunting!

Probably nothing. Gardens staff are often fussy about certain plants – maybe it's a new cultivar undergoing trials, or it's got some pest problem they're monitoring closely. Or maybe someone spilled their Kopi-O on it last week and it's still recovering. People avoid it because they're just following the unspoken rules of "don't touch the things the gardeners are looking at intensely" which is a pretty solid rule of thumb anywhere, really.
