Singapore Botanic Gardens' Orchid Paradise

fmd_good Singapore Botanic Gardens

So, I'm heading to the Singapore Botanic Gardens next week. I've heard SO much about the National Orchid Garden – it's supposed to be breathtaking. My question is: what's the best time of day to vi… more

Early morning is definitely the way to go! Beat the heat and the throngs of tourists. I've been a few times, and the difference between 9 am and noon is HUGE. Plus, the orchids look extra vibrant in the morning dew. As for specific orchids... Vanda Miss Joaquim is the national flower, so obviously a must-see. Keep an eye out for the Dendrobium and Phalaenopsis varieties too—they’re stunning and come in a crazy array of colors. There's a whole section dedicated to showcasing orchids from all over the world, so just wander and get lost in the beauty. It's seriously magical. Enjoy your trip!

Honestly, Biopolis is pretty much a concrete jungle. Finding something truly "off the beaten path" within its confines is a tall order. Your best bet is to venture just outside Biopolis's immediate area. There are some pretty decent hawker centres within walking distance, offering a much more authentic and affordable Singaporean experience than anything you'll find inside the campus. Think bustling, noisy, and delicious. They're usually packed with locals, so you'll get a feel for the real Singapore. Forget the sterile lunch spots; the hawker centres are where the real action is. Even the scientists probably sneak out there sometimes.
