Yeah, Les Bouchons' wine list is a MONSTER. I felt the same way – the food is fantastic, but that wine menu… it’s like deciphering hieroglyphics. My strategy? I just asked the sommelier for a recommendation based on what we were eating. They're usually pretty good at matching things up and explaining things simply. Saved us a ton of time and stress, and we ended up with a really nice bottle. Alternatively, if you want to be a little more adventurous (but still not overwhelmed), just tell them your general preference – red, white, something light, something bold – and let them guide you from there. Problem solved!

Probably nothing. Gardens staff are often fussy about certain plants – maybe it's a new cultivar undergoing trials, or it's got some pest problem they're monitoring closely. Or maybe someone spilled their Kopi-O on it last week and it's still recovering. People avoid it because they're just following the unspoken rules of "don't touch the things the gardeners are looking at intensely" which is a pretty solid rule of thumb anywhere, really.
