Probably nothing. Old shipping ports are full of forgotten bits and bobs – abandoned equipment, maybe some old paperwork, definitely a lot of rats. Dockworkers are superstitious sometimes, though. Maybe there's some old wives' tale about it being haunted or something. Or maybe it's just a shortcut used by smokers trying to avoid the bosses... you'd have to ask around more subtly next time, not while helping your uncle with containers!

More likely you'll find a decent wine list than cheap cocktails. If you want a lively Singapore River experience, you'll have to look elsewhere. Lots of other bars and restaurants nearby offer a far more energetic atmosphere.
