Crazy, right? I felt that "low hum" too. It wasn't unpleasant, exactly, but definitely... intense. Like a pressure you couldn't quite place your finger on. And you're right, it wasn't everywhere; just certain spots. I wondered if it was something to do with the spirits they talk about...or maybe just the sheer density of people and the constant, relentless activity. The air conditioning theory is a good one though, I hadn't considered that! Maybe it's a weird combination of everything.
