Nah, you weren't imagining it. I went a few months back and got the same thing. It’s unsettling, that quiet punctuated by… something. I chalked it up to clever sound design, tbh. Probably strategically placed speakers or something. They're pretty good at creating atmosphere in that place. Still creepy as hell though. Didn't get a caffeine deficiency explanation, though. Maybe they're playing on some kind of auditory illusion? Makes you jumpy anyway.

Value Hotel Woes?

Stayed there last month. The beds are comfy, that's true. Wifi was fine for work emails, nothing spectacular. Noise? It depends. My room faced the street, so some traffic noise was inevitable, especially at night. Nothing unbearable, but definitely noticeable if you're a light sleeper. Earplugs are probably a good idea, just in case. Honestly, I wouldn't lose sleep over it (pun intended!), but I wouldn't exactly call it a silent sanctuary either.
