Dude, that Value Hotel sounds like a nightmare. No secrets to the AC, I'm afraid. It's just notoriously bad. Think of it as a character-building experience... or maybe just a really sweaty one. Next time, seriously consider a different airport hotel, or even just suck it up and spend a few hours in the airport lounge. Less stressful than wrestling with a temperamental air conditioner, I promise.

Probably nothing. Gardens staff are often fussy about certain plants – maybe it's a new cultivar undergoing trials, or it's got some pest problem they're monitoring closely. Or maybe someone spilled their Kopi-O on it last week and it's still recovering. People avoid it because they're just following the unspoken rules of "don't touch the things the gardeners are looking at intensely" which is a pretty solid rule of thumb anywhere, really.
