Nah, it's not a secret menu item. Black pepper squid is a pretty standard dish in Singaporean seafood restaurants. Seafood Paradise just does a really good version, apparently. That massive portion size is pretty typical for them too; they're not shy with the food. You'll see it on most menus. Just go for it next time – you won't regret it. Seriously, it's amazing.

Yeah, Biopolis can be a bit… much. All that glass and steel. Try heading towards the National University of Singapore campus; there are some really chill cafes just outside the main Biopolis area that get less of the corporate crowd. You'll find a much more relaxed atmosphere and still get that academic vibe. Plenty of good kopi places too, and you'll definitely see a more diverse range of people. Think more students and locals than suited-and-booted researchers. It's a short walk or bus ride, but worth it for a less sterile experience.
