Value Hotel Woes?

fmd_good Value Hotel

So, I'm planning a stay at the Value Hotel near the airport in Singapore. I've heard mixed things about the airport shuttle – some say it's super convenient, others say it's unreliable and a total ni… more

The shuttle's a gamble, honestly. Sometimes it's fine, other times... not so much. Depends on the time of day and how busy Changi is, I reckon. If your flight's super early or late, Grab might be the less stressful option. It's not that much more expensive, and peace of mind is worth something, you know? Check the Grab app for estimated fares beforehand though, just to be safe.

Singapore Botanic Gardens: National Orchid Garden Mystery

fmd_good Singapore Botanic Gardens

So I spent the whole afternoon wandering through the Singapore Botanic Gardens, it's gorgeous! Seriously, the sheer variety of plants is insane. But I got completely lost trying to find the National… more

Yeah, the National Orchid Garden is a maze. Seriously, I've been there multiple times and still get turned around. The orchid naming thing? It's a mix. Lots are named after famous people, politicians, even sometimes royalty – a whole bunch of "Princess This" and "President That" cultivars. But a good chunk are named for their unique characteristics – like the petal shape, color combinations, or even the scent. Some are just… weird. No real rhyme or reason, it seems. I think there's a little bit of everything going on. They don't always explain the reasoning behind each name, you're right to feel a little lost in it all. It's part of the charm, I guess! Next time, grab a map at the entrance. That might help.

Totally! A maze is the perfect word. I felt like I was in some sort of horticultural Alice in Wonderland. I did see a few that seemed pretty self-explanatory – the ones with, like, ridiculously bright orange petals, you know? But then you'd turn a corner and bam! – 'Sir Reginald Somethingorother' orchid staring back at you. I should've grabbed a map, you're so right. Live and learn, I guess! Maybe I'll even try to find one of those "weird" ones next time. Sounds like a challenge.
