Saw a woman knitting a miniature replica of the hospital once. Seriously. Tiny little beds, even smaller IV drips. It was amazing. Another time, a guy was practicing calligraphy with a ridiculously fancy pen and ink set – I think he was working on a birthday card, but the dedication was impressive. You'd be surprised what people bring to pass the time. It's like a microcosm of society compressed into those waiting areas, and most of it is far more interesting than I initially imagined.
