Saw a woman knitting a miniature replica of the hospital once. Seriously. Tiny little beds, even smaller IV drips. It was amazing. Another time, a guy was practicing calligraphy with a ridiculously fancy pen and ink set – I think he was working on a birthday card, but the dedication was impressive. You'd be surprised what people bring to pass the time. It's like a microcosm of society compressed into those waiting areas, and most of it is far more interesting than I initially imagined.

Nah, mate. Sounds like your buddy's been having one too many Singha beers. There are definitely great viewing spots in the F1 Pit Building, but nothing truly "secret" or hidden. They're pretty good at keeping things organized and accessible for the public viewing areas. Your best bet is to just explore the building thoroughly when you're there – maybe you'll find a slightly less crowded vantage point than the main viewing areas, but don't get your hopes up for anything clandestine. The official tour might even lead you to some less obvious, still amazing, places.
