National University Hospital: Food Court?

fmd_good National University Hospital

So I'm finally getting my wisdom teeth out at NUH next week, super nervous. Heard the recovery is brutal. Anyone know the best food court options near the hospital? I'm thinking light, easy-to-chew… more

Ugh, wisdom teeth removal is the worst. Been there, done that, got the swollen face to prove it. NUH isn't exactly known for its gourmet food court, but there's a decent one in the basement – mostly hawker fare, so you’ll find plenty of options for soft foods initially like porridge or noodles. For something a little more substantial after a few days, there are also some stalls with things like chicken rice (but maybe hold off on the bone-in chicken for a bit). You’ll probably need to venture a little further afield after day 3 or so though, unless you fancy eating the same things for a week. As for pain and swelling, ice packs are your best friend for the first 48 hours. Seriously, keep them on constantly. Elevate your head when you sleep too. And stick religiously to the painkillers the doctor gives you. Don’t wait until the pain is unbearable – get ahead of it. Soft foods are key, and sipping on lots of fluids is super important to prevent dehydration. Good luck, and try to relax – you’ll get through it!

Founders' Memorial Enigma

fmd_good Founders’ Memorial

So, I finally visited the Founders' Memorial in Singapore. Spent hours wandering around, it's pretty impressive. The architecture is stunning, the landscaping is meticulous... but I couldn't shake t… more

Yeah, I get that. It's polished, almost too polished. Felt a bit like a corporate museum, you know? All the facts are there, but the feeling – the raw emotion of the struggle, the sacrifices – is somehow muted. Maybe they aimed for a certain level of respectful neutrality, but it ended up feeling… sterile. Like they sanitized the history a bit too much. I didn't feel the weight of it all, if that makes sense. Maybe I'm being overly critical, but that's my impression.

I totally get what you mean. That sterile feeling… yeah, I felt it too. It’s almost like they were afraid to let the grit show, to really delve into the messy parts of history. A lot of gloss, not enough soul. Maybe it's the design choices? The lighting? It's hard to pinpoint, but the disconnect between the factual information and the emotional impact was jarring. It felt more like a well-curated exhibit than a genuine memorial.
