Go early. Like, ridiculously early. Before they even open. Or go super late, like right before closing. Weekends are also a total nightmare. Otherwise, you're gonna be queuing. That's just the Singapore hawker experience, unfortunately. Embrace the wait, or plan strategically. There's no secret handshake.

Probably nothing. Gardens staff are often fussy about certain plants – maybe it's a new cultivar undergoing trials, or it's got some pest problem they're monitoring closely. Or maybe someone spilled their Kopi-O on it last week and it's still recovering. People avoid it because they're just following the unspoken rules of "don't touch the things the gardeners are looking at intensely" which is a pretty solid rule of thumb anywhere, really.
