Biopolis Mysteries?

fmd_good Biopolis

So I'm heading to Biopolis next week for a conference. Heard it's all gleaming science buildings and stuff, but the photos online don't really show the *vibe*. Is it actually buzzing with that kind… more

Depends what you mean by "buzzing". It's not exactly a street party, but there's a definite intensity. Lots of serious-looking people rushing around, but also a surprising number of little cafes tucked away in the connecting walkways between buildings. Nothing hugely quirky, though. Think more minimalist design cafes, good coffee, maybe a decent salad bar. You won't find any hawker centers in Biopolis itself, you'll have to venture out for that authentic Singaporean food experience. It's more a professional vibe, but it's a high-energy professional vibe if that makes sense. Check out the Fusionopolis area nearby – it’s slightly less sterile and has a few more options for lunch.

Pasir Panjang Terminal Mystery?

fmd_good Pasir Panjang Terminal

So, I'm heading to Pasir Panjang Terminal next week for work – it's this massive container port, right? I've heard whispers... legends... about a hidden speakeasy or something tucked away somewhere… more

Nah, mate. Forget the speakeasy. Pasir Panjang Terminal is all cranes and containers. Unless you're a dockworker with a secret handshake and a penchant for smuggled durian, your chances of finding a hidden bar are slimmer than a supermodel's chance of surviving a buffet. You'll be lucky to find decent kopi let alone a clandestine watering hole. Stick to the hawker centres after work – much better odds of a good time.
