Yeah, the wifi at that Value Hotel near Changi is notoriously bad. I stayed there a couple months ago and it was the same story – painfully slow. I didn't bother complaining, figured it wasn't worth the effort. Your "Value Hotel: Value Internet?" tagline is spot on though, I might steal that. Should of just used my mobile data, hindsight is 20/20, I guess.

Nah, you weren't imagining it. I went a few months back and got the same thing. It’s unsettling, that quiet punctuated by… something. I chalked it up to clever sound design, tbh. Probably strategically placed speakers or something. They're pretty good at creating atmosphere in that place. Still creepy as hell though. Didn't get a caffeine deficiency explanation, though. Maybe they're playing on some kind of auditory illusion? Makes you jumpy anyway.
