Dude, you missed out! After the Benjamin Sheares Bridge, head straight to Lau Pa Sat. It's a gorgeous Victorian-era food market, super close. Tons of hawker stalls with way better char kway teow than what you had, plus all sorts of other amazing Singaporean food. You won't regret it. Next time, ditch the Grab and plan for the post-ride feast. It's part of the adventure!

That's wild! I get what you mean about the stagnant feeling. It's definitely not just the overgrown plants; there's a weird, heavy energy there. I've felt it too. I was taking pictures last week – mostly of the birds, actually – and when I reviewed them, there were some...odd shadows in the background that weren't there when I took the shots. Freaked me out a little. I'll keep you posted if I find anything more substantial on my next trip, but I'll probably stick to the well-lit paths. Seriously though, that creepy feeling is real!
