That's a really interesting point about the art being deliberately chosen to be distracting! I never thought of it that way, but it totally makes sense. I mean, you're sitting there, probably anxious, and suddenly you're looking at something visually interesting instead of focusing on the clock...or worse. It's a clever strategy.
