Bangkok's Hell

fmd_good Hell’s Museum

So, I’m heading to Hell’s Museum in Bangkok next week. I've seen pictures, it’s…intense. The whole thing’s based on Buddhist depictions of hell, right? Loads of statues and stuff. My question is:… more

It's pretty intense. Like, seriously intense. Think less "mildly disturbing art exhibit" and more "holy crap, I need a stiff drink afterwards." The statues are incredibly detailed, and some of the depictions... well, let's just say they don't shy away from the gruesome aspects of Buddhist hell. You won't be hiding behind your guide the whole time, but you'll definitely be finding yourself looking at your feet for stretches. Prepare for some seriously vivid imagery. You'll probably be fine, but if you're squeamish about really graphic depictions of suffering, maybe give it a miss. It's not for the faint of heart.

Biopolis Mystery

fmd_good Biopolis

So I'm heading to Biopolis next week for a conference. Heard it's all gleaming labs and cutting-edge research, but the photos online feel… sterile. Anyone know of any cool hidden cafes or quirky spo… more

Yeah, Biopolis can be a bit… much. All that glass and steel. Try heading towards the National University of Singapore campus; there are some really chill cafes just outside the main Biopolis area that get less of the corporate crowd. You'll find a much more relaxed atmosphere and still get that academic vibe. Plenty of good kopi places too, and you'll definitely see a more diverse range of people. Think more students and locals than suited-and-booted researchers. It's a short walk or bus ride, but worth it for a less sterile experience.
