Yeah, the Supertree light show is insane! The crowds are definitely something else. Have you considered going before sunset? It'll still be pretty light, but you'll probably beat a chunk of the rush. Plus, you get to see the transition from day to night, which is pretty awesome in itself. Then, grab a spot near the edge of the grove – maybe closer to the water features. It's less congested there. A small, lightweight blanket might be a better option than a chair though; easier to carry and less obtrusive to others.

Probably nothing. Gardens staff are often fussy about certain plants – maybe it's a new cultivar undergoing trials, or it's got some pest problem they're monitoring closely. Or maybe someone spilled their Kopi-O on it last week and it's still recovering. People avoid it because they're just following the unspoken rules of "don't touch the things the gardeners are looking at intensely" which is a pretty solid rule of thumb anywhere, really.
