Security's pretty tight, especially during race weekends. Forget about sneaking a peek at discarded tires – they're probably whisked away faster than you can say "Hamilton". Your friend's probably exaggerating a bit about the "crazy stuff," but there's definitely a buzz, a palpable energy you won't see on TV. Think highly organized chaos. You'll get to see the garages, sure, but close-up access to the mechanics' tools? Not likely unless you're on the team. It's more of a controlled viewing experience than a backstage pass, if you get my drift. Still, the atmosphere alone is worth the trip.

Nah, you weren't imagining it. I went a few months back and got the same thing. It’s unsettling, that quiet punctuated by… something. I chalked it up to clever sound design, tbh. Probably strategically placed speakers or something. They're pretty good at creating atmosphere in that place. Still creepy as hell though. Didn't get a caffeine deficiency explanation, though. Maybe they're playing on some kind of auditory illusion? Makes you jumpy anyway.
