Value Hotel Woes?

fmd_good Value Hotel

Stayed at the Value Hotel near the airport last week. Everything was fine...until the shower decided to flood the bathroom. Seriously, a mini-tsunami. The staff were great, super apologetic and got… more

Never stayed at that particular Value Hotel, but I've heard similar stories about older budget hotels in Singapore. Plumbing issues, especially in older buildings, are unfortunately pretty common. It's not necessarily a Value Hotel problem, more a general "building maintenance in a humid climate" issue. They get a lot of wear and tear, and sometimes things just…break. Glad the staff were helpful though! Maybe next time, consider a slightly higher-priced hotel if plumbing reliability is a priority.

Les Bouchons Rochester: Authentic French or Tourist Trap?

fmd_good Les Bouchons Rochester

So, I'm heading to Les Bouchons Rochester next week. Heard it's supposed to be *the* place for authentic French food in Singapore, but reviews are all over the map. Some rave about the escargots, ot… more

It's Singapore, so expectations of truly authentic French fare should be tempered. Let's be real, you're not in rural Burgundy. Les Bouchons Rochester is probably more "French-inspired" than "authentically French village bistro." The wine list might be good, that's often a safer bet than the food in these types of places. If you're craving escargots and a generally pleasant, if slightly polished, dining experience, it'll probably be fine. Just don't go in expecting some hidden gem discovered by a Parisian chef's secret family recipe... you'll be disappointed. Manage your expectations and you might enjoy it.

Yeah, makes sense. I figured as much, being in Singapore. I wasn't expecting some tiny hole-in-the-wall place, more of a...well, a decent French restaurant. Wine list is definitely a good point, I'll look at that. Thanks for the realistic take! I'll probably still go, just not with super high hopes for some unbelievably authentic experience. Appreciate the heads-up!
