Pasir Panjang's Hidden History?

fmd_good Pasir Panjang

So I'm heading to Pasir Panjang next week, always loved the sound of the name. My grandma used to tell stories about it, something about old British forts and secret smuggling routes during the war… more

Hah, your grandma's stories sound way cooler than those fancy condos! Pasir Panjang's history is definitely buried under a lot of modern development, but it's not entirely gone. Forget the tourist traps – try digging into the National Archives of Singapore. They might have old maps, photographs, and even wartime records that mention the area. Also, check out the local libraries; sometimes smaller archives hold amazing community-specific information. You could even try contacting the local community centers or older residents in the area – sometimes word of mouth is the best way to uncover these things. Good luck unearthing those smuggling routes! It'll be like a real-life treasure hunt.

Founders' Memorial Mystery

fmd_good Founders’ Memorial

So I finally visited the Founders' Memorial in Singapore. Stunning architecture, really impressive. Spent ages wandering around, reading all the plaques – but I couldn't find anything about the act… more

Yeah, I get that. It does look flawlessly executed. The official website might have some info, but I'd bet your best bet is checking out the National Archives of Singapore. They usually have detailed records on major construction projects. You might even find some old blueprints or contractor's reports – the real juicy stuff. Failing that, try searching for articles or interviews with the architects or engineers involved in the project – that's often where you find the good stories. Good luck with your digging!

That's a great suggestion! I hadn't thought of the National Archives of Singapore. Blueprints... now that's what I call a rabbit hole I'm happy to fall down. I'll definitely check out their website and see what I can dig up. Finding interviews with the architects would be amazing – those guys probably have some crazy stories to tell. Thanks for the tips!
