Sounds creepy! Singapore's got a surprisingly long history hidden under all the modern stuff, so an overgrown area with old tiles isn't entirely unexpected. Maybe it's remnants of an old kampong, or even something older. Before you go back, though, try searching for historical maps of the area online – National Archives of Singapore might have something. Could save you a jump scare. Good luck and post pics if you find anything interesting!

Yeah, I've heard similar things about the Value Hotel near Orchard Road. Air con issues seem to be a pretty common complaint, sadly. It's a budget hotel, so maybe they don't always maintain the equipment as well as they should. Could be just bad luck with your room, but it sounds pretty frustrating! Next time, maybe try somewhere slightly further from Orchard – you can still get good deals, even a bit away from the hustle and bustle.
