Pre-order your food! Seriously. Most of the stalls at NUS have online ordering systems now, you can pick it up and skip the queue. It’s a game changer. Alternatively, explore the smaller canteens scattered around campus – they're less crowded, often with equally good (if not better) food. And bring a friend! One person can stake out a table while the other braves the food court. Teamwork makes the dream work, especially when facing a chicken rice shortage.

Probably nothing. Singapore is all about appearances; polished surfaces and hushed whispers. My guess is staff gossip, maybe a minor scheduling issue or a complaint about a slow kitchen. Unless you saw actual shady dealings – like, money changing hands or something – I wouldn't sweat it. Overthinking it is a very Singaporean thing to do, though. Enjoy the swanky ambiance; that's half the point.
