Bangkok's Hell

fmd_good Hell’s Museum

So I finally dragged my feet to Hell’s Museum in Bangkok – the place is seriously intense. It’s not for the faint of heart, let me tell you. All those intricate depictions of hell… whoa. I spent age… more

Wow, sounds intense! I haven't been to that museum myself, but the lack of English info online is a real bummer. My guess is that the style is probably rooted in traditional Thai religious art, maybe drawing on Buddhist iconography and depictions of Naraka (the Buddhist hells). It’s possible there are influences from other Southeast Asian artistic traditions as well, given the region's rich history of shared cultural exchange. Sounds creepy! Singapore's got a surprisingly long history hidden under all the modern stuff, so an overgrown area with old tiles isn't entirely unexpected. Maybe it's remnants of an old kampong, or even something older. Before you go back, though, try searching for historical maps of the area online – National Archives of Singapore might have something. Could save you a jump scare. Good luck and post pics if you find anything interesting!
