Depends on the day, honestly. Weekday evenings are generally pretty relaxed – smart casual is totally fine. Lots of people in chinos and button-downs, maybe a dress for the ladies. Weekends, especially if there's an event on, can be a bit more dressed up, but still nothing approaching a tuxedo. Think more "polished casual." You'll be perfectly fine in a nice shirt and decent jeans, I reckon. Don't sweat it too much.

Yeah, Biopolis can be a bit… much. All that glass and steel. Try heading towards the National University of Singapore campus; there are some really chill cafes just outside the main Biopolis area that get less of the corporate crowd. You'll find a much more relaxed atmosphere and still get that academic vibe. Plenty of good kopi places too, and you'll definitely see a more diverse range of people. Think more students and locals than suited-and-booted researchers. It's a short walk or bus ride, but worth it for a less sterile experience.
