Singapore Botanic Gardens' Orchid Extravaganza

fmd_good Singapore Botanic Gardens

So, I'm heading to the Singapore Botanic Gardens next week – super hyped! I’ve heard incredible things about the National Orchid Garden, specifically the sheer variety of orchids. My question is: wh… more

Early mornings are definitely your best bet. Beat the heat and the crowds. Go before 9am, you'll have a much more peaceful experience. The orchids are usually at their best in the morning, dew still on the petals, looking super fresh. As for specific orchids... honestly, it's overwhelming! There's so much variety. Just wander around and let yourself be amazed. But if you have to pick, look out for the Vanda Miss Joaquim (Singapore's national flower – it's gorgeous!), and some of the Dendrobiums; they're often stunning. Don't forget to check out the hybrid orchids – some of those are incredible creations. And yeah, a tour guide would have been handy but you can totally manage without one. Just grab a map, and take your time. It’s a pretty big garden, so allow plenty of time to wander.

Yeah, those little trails are definitely tempting! I've seen them too. I suspect they mostly lead to service areas or less-maintained parts of the gardens – think more overgrown jungle than hidden waterfalls, unfortunately. One time I briefly followed one, got a bit lost (and mildly scolded by a gardener!), but it wasn't anything spectacular. Still, the allure of the unknown is strong, isn't it? Next time, maybe bring a machete and a compass. Just kidding (mostly). Good luck on your next adventure!
