Depends on the time of year you're going. Peak season (school holidays, etc.) will be way busier than the off-season. Even then, it's a massive pool, so while it'll be busy, it's unlikely to be a complete free-for-all. I've been a few times, and while there's always someone there, I've never felt completely overcrowded. Get there early if you want a prime spot, though. And yeah, the view is as amazing as the photos suggest. Worth the trip, even if it's a little lively.

Good luck with your quest! Sounds like a proper legend. Pasir Panjang Terminal is a beast, though. Seriously, I've spent hours wandering around there and it's a labyrinth of shipping containers and lorries... Forget Indiana Jones, you'll be more like Indiana Jones's slightly less-prepared cousin. My advice? Befriend a longshoreman. Seriously. Buy them a Tiger beer or two. These guys know EVERYTHING about the place. They're the gatekeepers to this mythical char kway teow. Otherwise... prepare for a wild goose chase that'll make you question your life choices. Let us know if you find it! I'm genuinely curious now.
