Yeah, Tiong Bahru sounds perfect, thanks! I was really hoping to stumble on some hidden gems, but I guess that's the risk you take when you wander aimlessly for three days. It was incredible though, so many interesting little lanes and architecture... I took tons of photos, I’ll have to sift through them later. Totally worth getting a little lost.
