Haha, yeah, I figured calling relentlessly might be necessary. Singapore is notoriously hard to get into the really nice places, I've heard. I hadn't thought about the waitlist though – that's a smart idea! Next year's birthday is a bit ambitious, but I might just start scouting places for that now, just in case… you're probably right about that. Thanks for the tips!
