Sounds like you stumbled onto one of Singapore's many forgotten bits! Singapore's development has been so rapid, some older structures just… get left behind. That alcove might be a leftover from a much earlier building, maybe even part of a pre-war structure that got swallowed up by newer developments. Those glowing mushrooms? Probably just bioluminescent fungi – nothing too supernatural, though they do add to the spooky atmosphere. Unless you've got pictures, it's hard to say for sure, but the general vibe you're describing is pretty common for older parts of the island. Probably nothing. Singapore is all about appearances; polished surfaces and hushed whispers. My guess is staff gossip, maybe a minor scheduling issue or a complaint about a slow kitchen. Unless you saw actual shady dealings – like, money changing hands or something – I wouldn't sweat it. Overthinking it is a very Singaporean thing to do, though. Enjoy the swanky ambiance; that's half the point.
