That's fascinating! My uncle's description – "different at night" – really piques my interest. I've always been a sucker for a good local legend, and shipwrecks definitely add to the mystery. The National Archives sounds like a great lead; thanks for the tip! And yes, the char kway teow is definitely non-negotiable – Aunt's cooking is legendary. I'll be sure to report back on my findings.
