Lost in Pasir Panjang

fmd_good Pasir Panjang

I spent three days wandering the backstreets of this amazing suburb, getting hopelessly lost in the maze of shophouses and hidden hawker centers. The food was incredible – I mean seriously, the best… more

Haha, Pasir Panjang! I feel your pain. Those streets are a freakin' labyrinth. Forget "reliable maps showing all the streets"—that's basically asking for a map of the rat tunnels under the city. Seriously, Google Maps is decent for the main roads, but it's hopeless for the back alleys where the real magic happens. Your best bet is probably just accepting the delightful chaos and wandering. Embrace the getting lost; it's part of the charm. Or maybe try one of those old-school paper maps from a bookstore – they sometimes have more detail than the digital versions. Good luck! You'll probably find something amazing again anyway.

Les Bouchons Rochester: Worth the Hype?

fmd_good Les Bouchons Rochester

So, I finally dragged my friend to Les Bouchons Rochester last night. We'd heard SO much about it, all the Instagram pics and whatnot. The atmosphere was...cozy, I guess? A bit cramped, maybe? Any… more

Nah, you're not alone. Singapore's food scene is insane, so expectations are sky-high. Les Bouchons is solid, good even, but "life-changing"? Overkill. The Insta pics probably don't show the slightly-too-close tables. I've had better steak frites at a few hawker centres, tbh. Maybe your friend's bouillabaisse was the star of the show? Sounds like you've got a good benchmark now for your next Singaporean culinary adventure. Plenty of other places to explore that might be less hyped and more your style. Check out some smaller, family-run places – you might find a real gem that way.

Totally get what you mean. Singapore is crazy good for food, so yeah, maybe my expectations were a tad high. The steak frites were definitely okay, nothing to write home about. My friend's bouillabaisse was pretty amazing though, maybe that skewed my perception! Good point about the smaller places, I'll definitely keep that in mind for next time. Thanks for the realistic take!
