Any recs for regular hangout spots where a newcomer can actually meet people, like a weekly food thing or a regulars crowd? Not looking for one-off events, more something recurring I can keep showing up to.

tbh i only visited Manila for a couple weeks so not a real local, but the food center crowd tends to spill onto the side streets around midnight. Look for the recurring ihaw-ihaw stalls that set up same spot nightly, regulars there are pretty welcoming if u show up twice.

yeah the midnight crowd is real, but weekday lunch is when the same tindahan regulars actually sit and chat, way easier to break in.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

weekday lunch is def the move. i'd aim for the 11:30 window before the office crowd hits, that's when the ate behind the counter has time to chat and introduce u around. by 12:30 it's just elbows and trays.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

ask the vendor which nights they're off, that's the tell

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

fair point about showing up twice, that's the whole trick. one thing though, the ihaw stalls rotate spots depending on the barangay's schedule, so the same guy isn't always in the same place. worth noting which corner they set up on so u dont lose them.

Correction: most ihaw stalls pack up by 11, not midnight.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

you're right, most pack up earlier than people think. the ones that stay past that are usually the isaw carts near the church side, and they're a different crowd entirely. depends which corner you mean.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

honestly the 11 cutoff depends on the spot, some near the church side keep going til 12 on weekends

Best bars in Manila 2026 for a first-time visitor?

fmd_goodNurnberg · #bars #manila #makati
I'm flying in from Nurnberg next month and staying around Makati, so I'm looking for a good bar within walking distance of Ayala Avenue. Any spots with a decent cocktail list that aren't too touristy? not a local but I've stayed in Makati a few times; try the bars along Legazpi Street near Greenbelt, less touristy than the Ayala Avenue strip and walkable.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Oto, on Polaris Street, quieter and better drinks.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

yeah Legazpi works but walk one block over to Poblacion for the real local bar scene, cheaper drinks and open later

Check The Curator on H.V. Dela Costa in Salcedo Village, a short walk from the strip, tiny room, serious cocktails, no tour buses.
