I haven't stayed there but I walked past that street in Sampaloc last year. Boarding houses like that usually fill up fast, so call ahead rather than just showing up. Rates around there tend to run 3,000 to 5,000 a month.

yeah calling ahead is the move, most of those places don't even list online. also ask if the rate includes utilities, a lot of the 3k to 5k quotes are rent only & electricity gets split among boarders

Splitting electricity gets tricky when one boarder runs an aircon, so ask if they sub-meter per room.

Havent stayed there myself but a coworker booked sight unseen and got burned, the photos were way older than the unit. If u can, ask for a video walkthrough of the actual room and confirm the deposit terms in writing before sending anything.

Good call on the video walkthrough, those old photos are a real trap. I'd also ask for a screenshot of a recent receipt or utility bill to confirm the place is actually operating.

Video walkthroughs help, but ask them to pan to the window so you can confirm the room actually faces the street and not a wall.
