honestly the guide nailed it with mama put's kitchen, the tuwo shinkafa there is legit. but if you're feeling adventurous, walk about two minutes down abdul aziz attah road toward the gaa akanbi junction, there's a small joint called Alhaja's that does miyan taushe with tuwo that's even richer, same price range around 1,500. just be prepared to wait a bit cause she makes it fresh per order, usually takes like 15 extra minutes but worth it
the guide's got it right about suya point but i gotta say the real move is getting there around 6pm when they just start firing up the grill, that first batch is always the best and less crowded. also if you're into spicy stuff ask for the "yaji extra" they keep under the counter, it's a different level of heat they don't offer everyone. fwiw the cold drink they pair it with should be a fanta, not coke - the citrus cuts through the oil better imo
best photo spots in ilorin?
if you want something different, try the esie museum road just outside town. the old stone carvings there are super underrated and the light filters through the trees nicely in the late afternoon. also the ahmadu bello way bridge gives you a good vantage point of the whole city skyline, especially when the minarets catch the golden hour
the government house area has some really nice colonial architecture if you're into that vibe. also the old market near the post office gets chaotic but the colors and textures are wild around 8am. the unilorin dam road is decent for sunset shots too, just watch out for the traffic.
oja market area is pretty good for street photography if you want that busy everyday life feel. also the imam's tomb near the central mosque has a nice old-world look to it
