transit tips for Utrecht in 5 months?

i'll be heading to Utrecht in about 5 months and trying to figure out the best way to get around. is the OV-chipkaart worth it for a short stay or should i just buy single tickets? i'll be heading to Utrecht in about 5 months and trying to figure out the best way to get around. is the OV-chipkaart worth it for a short stay or should i just buy single tickets?

for a short stay just get single tickets tbh. the OV-chipkaart has a 7.50 euro non-refundable fee for the card itself, so unless you're taking like 10+ trips it doesn't pay off. the trams and buses run fine and you can tap in with contactless on some now too, just check the tram doors for the reader icons

Honestly for 5 months you're past the short-stay threshold. Get a personal OV-chipkaart, the 7.50 euro fee pays for itself after a few train rides to Amsterdam or Rotterdam. The bus 28 from Centraal to the Uithof is always packed during rush hour, so if you're going that way regularly the card makes tapping in and out much smoother than fumbling with single tickets. Just remember to check out when you leave the tram or bus, I've seen tourists forget and get charged the full 4 euro base rate.

You can also just get a disposable OV-chipkaart at the ticket machines in Utrecht Centraal, they cost 1 euro and you load value on them. They work for buses, trams, and trains within the city, and you don't pay the 7.50 fee. If you're mostly sticking to the city center and the Uithof area, walking and biking will cover most of it anyway, so you might not need many transit trips.
