Budgeting for Ulaanbaatar?

Headed to Ulaanbaatar in about 3 months and trying to figure out a realistic daily budget for food, transport, and a few sights. Anyone got a rough idea what I should expect to spend per day? fwiw your biggest variable is gonna be drinks. a beer at a normal bar is like 5-8k mnt but at some of the fancier spots on Seoul Street you'll pay 12k easy. if you stick to the State Department Store food court for lunch you can get a massive plate of tsuivan for 6k and it's actually good. also the Choijin Lama Temple is only 3k and way less crowded than the Winter Palace, I'd do that one instead

honestly if you're not picky about where you eat, you can easily do 30,000 mnt a day for food and bus fare. i live in the 3rd khoroo area and get by on 20,000 mnt for three meals if i hit the small ger kitchens near the market. the bus system is fine but gets packed during rush hour so i'd budget 2,000 mnt for a couple of rides or just walk between the main sights since they're close together in the city center. for a few beers at a place like dublin pub you're looking at another 15,000 mnt per pint though so that adds up fast

If you're eating at local spots like the guanz near the State Department Store or grabbing buuz from a street stall, you can get a solid meal for under 10,000 MNT. For transport, the bus is 500 MNT per ride, so getting around is cheap, but taxis through an app like UBCab will run you 5,000 to 10,000 MNT for a short trip across the city. For sights, the National Museum is 8,000 MNT and the Winter Palace is around 5,000, so with three meals, a couple of bus rides, and one entry fee, you're looking at roughly 40,000 to 60,000 MNT per day, which is about $12 to $18. If you want a nicer sit-down dinner or a few beers at a spot like The Bull, tack on another 30,000 MNT easily.
