for architecture, the cathedral on the zócalo is great in the late afternoon when the light hits the yellow facade. for nature, walk through parque museo de la venta early morning before it gets hot, the sculptures in the jungle make for interesting shots with the trees. there's a viewpoint on the malecón near the puente de la unidad if you want the river and skyline, especially at sunset

Don't sleep on the CICOM building near the river, it's this brutalist concrete tower from the 70s that looks like a spaceship landed in the middle of the city. The geometric patterns on the facade change completely depending on where you stand, so walk around the whole block. For nature, the laguna inside Parque Tabasco has a wooden boardwalk that cuts through the mangroves, you can get close-up shots of lily pads and herons without disturbing them.

If you're into architecture, the Museo Regional de Antropologia Carlos Pellicer Camara has a striking modern design with concrete and glass that plays well with shadows throughout the day. The building itself is worth more time than the exhibits for photos, especially from the courtyard. For nature, head to Yumka around late afternoon when the light filters through the canopy and the animals are more active. It's a bit outside town but the lake and the rescued wildlife give you variety you won't find in the city parks.
