the barbacoa at el güero is legit but heads up, they run out fast. i showed up at 11:30 once and they were already pulling the last bits off the bone. get there by 9 if you want the really tender meat, the consommé on the side is free and they'll give you extra if you ask nicely. also that tres leches tip about 11am is spot on, i went at 4pm once and it was kinda dry tbh
yeah the guide covers the basics well but imo it misses the best torta spot in Neza. there's a guy on avenida pantitlan just past the walmart who sets up around 2pm, he does this torta de chilaquiles with milanesa that's like 50 pesos. he soaks the bread in the salsa before toasting it on the plancha, so it gets this crunchy outside but the inside stays soft and saucy. he's usually there til like 7pm or until he runs out of milanesa, which happens a lot on weekends
Nice work on the guide. I'd add that the suadero tacos at Tacos El Chino mentioned for the evening are worth planning around, but their al pastor is actually the hidden gem there. They slice it off the trompo with a bit of pineapple and the tortillas are handmade, which you don't see as often in Neza. Also, for the breakfast section, there's a tiny stall inside the Mercado de la Ciudad Jardín on the north side that does huaraches with tinga de pollo for about 35 pesos, and they're open from 7 AM to noon.
getting around nezahualcoyotl in 5 months?
honestly the metrobus vs mexibus thing depends where in neza u're staying. if u're near the palacio municipal side, the mexibus on the chimalhuacan line is quicker to get to pantitlan, but if u're closer to the periferico, the metrobus line 7 lets u off right at la raza which is nicer for the centro. for cards, both use the same style of prepaid, but u can actually get the metrobus one at any oxxo in neza, no need to go to a station, the mexibus one u gotta find the booth. rush hour tip nobody says, the 6:30am bus is actually worse than 7am because that's when all the workers leave, so aim for 6:50 or just wait until 9:15 when it thins out. also if u're going to cdmx on weekends, the metrobus is way more chill, like half the people, and the peseros to metro los reyes are basically empty after 10pm if u ever need a late ride. download the metrobus app too, it shows real-time arrivals and beats guessing at the stops.
The metrobus line that runs along the viaduct is actually pretty decent if you're coming from the southern part of Neza, but yeah, it crawls during peak hours. You'll need a card for both, and the metrobus one is easier to top up because the machines are everywhere, even at the smaller stations. For rush hour, honestly, try to avoid anything between 7 and 9 if you can, the line 5 metro transfer at Pantitlan is a nightmare at that time, everyone's shoving to get on the train. One thing people don't mention, the peseros that run along the main avenues are fine for short hops within Neza, but they get stuck in the same traffic as everything else, so they're only worth it if you're not in a hurry. Also, download the moovit app, it's way more accurate for the local bus routes than google maps.
mexibus is ur best bet for cdmx tbh, it drops u closer to pantitlan and connects to the metro line 5. metrobus works too but it can get stuck in traffic on the viaduct. both need a card, the mexibus card is separate from the metrobus one, so grab it at any station, cash is a no-go. rush hour is brutal 6:30-9am, if u can leave by 6am it's a whole different world, otherwise u'll be packed like sardines. also the peseros to metro los reyes are cheaper but slower, only worth it if ur broke or in a rush to nowhere lol
