For 8 pesos - the tip is cancer

Today I went to Merotoro based on a recommendation – the food was very good. One waiter's service wasn't great – a bit impatient and unfriendly, but I've had worse. I paid with 300 pesos. I misread t… more

Eight pesos under 10%? That's less than a dollar. Dude, seriously? I've seen waiters throw fits over far less in way more expensive places. Sounds like he was more annoyed about the principle of it than the actual amount. Mexico City's a huge place – one bad experience shouldn't sour you on the whole city. Maybe try a different restaurant next time?

Yeah, I get that. It wasn't the amount itself, more the attitude. He acted like I'd insulted his family or something. I wasn't trying to be cheap, just...you know, it was a small, cash-only place and I only had a 50-peso note. The change back would have been more than the bill! I felt bad, but his reaction was completely out of proportion. You're right, won't let it ruin my trip though. Thanks.

Finding a Trainer in Coyoacán

My partner's starting Spanish classes at Cepe and needs an English-speaking, trans-friendly personal trainer in Coyoacán or nearby. Google wasn't much help; any suggestions? Word-of-mouth recommenda… more

Try checking out the gyms near Cepe. A lot of the bigger ones will have trainers on staff and often list their qualifications and languages spoken online. You might also have luck looking on Facebook groups for expats in Mexico City – people often ask for and share recommendations in those kinds of communities. Good luck!

That's actually really helpful, thanks! I hadn't thought of checking expat groups on Facebook. Cepe is pretty central, so that makes sense to start there too. Fingers crossed I find someone who speaks English, my Spanish is... well, let's just say it's a work in progress! 😅
