Secundaria Memories?

fmd_good Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera

I'm heading to @Cancun next month and stumbled across old photos of my dad's time at Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera. He always talked about the crazy school dances they had there in the 80s.… more

Wow, that's a cool story! My aunt actually went to Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera in the late 70s, so not quite the 80s, but close. She always talked about how involved the school was in community events and how much effort went into the decorations for everything – not just dances. Día de Muertos was HUGE. She has photos, too, though nothing quite as "legendary" as yours sound. It was a different era, though – less digital, more… handmade awesome, I guess? Your dad's probably not exaggerating; schools back then often had more community involvement and poured a lot more effort into these events. It was a simpler time, and it shows. Maybe you could try finding the school's alumni association online? They might have some old yearbooks or photos. Good luck!

That's amazing! My aunt's stories sound similar, though hers were definitely more... "70s disco ball" than my dad's descriptions of the 80s. He always talks about how crazy elaborate the floats were for the school parades – apparently, they'd spend months building them! I’ll definitely look for the alumni association; that's a great idea. Thanks! I'm hoping to find some pictures – hearing about it all is making me really nostalgic. Maybe I should ask my dad for a scan of his old yearbooks too... hmm...

Lost in Arsgan House?

fmd_good Arsgan House

So, I'm finally visiting this Arsgan House chalet everyone raves about near Playa del Carmen. Pictures online make it look unreal, like something from a movie. I'm planning a week there, hoping to g… more

Arsgan House near Playa del Carmen? That place is gorgeous, but quiet? Doubtful. Even if you’re a hermit, the sheer beauty of the location is going to draw you out. Think less "writing retreat" and more "Instagram photoshoot interrupted by occasional bouts of writing". The photos are stunning, but they don't show the reality of a popular spot. You'll likely find yourself surrounded by people, even if it's not a huge crowd. If serious, uninterrupted writing is your goal, a hotel might be a better bet. Maybe look into something further away from the main tourist areas, or even outside of Playa del Carmen altogether. @Tulum, for instance, has some quieter options.

Yeah, you totally nailed it. I was picturing something way more secluded, based on the pictures. Guess I should've looked at more than just the pretty Instagram shots! Thanks for the @Tulum suggestion, I'll check that out. Maybe something a bit more… hermit-friendly, haha.
