Arsgan House Mystery?

fmd_good Arsgan House

So, I'm planning a trip to this incredible-looking chalet, Arsgan House, near Cancun. The pictures online are stunning, but they don't show much about the surrounding area. I'm worried about mosquit… more

Yeah, the Yucatan can be brutal with the mosquitos, especially near the coast. Arsgan House is gorgeous, though. I haven't stayed there personally, but I've been to that general area loads. Bring DEET. Seriously, the strongest DEET you can find. Don't mess around. Those little buggers are relentless. Long sleeves and pants at dusk and dawn are your friends, too. A good quality mosquito net for the bed wouldn't hurt either, especially if your windows aren't perfectly sealed. You'll probably be fine during the day, but evenings and nights will be when you'll notice them most. Enjoy your trip!

Secundaria Memories?

fmd_good Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera

I’m heading to @Cancun next month and, weirdly, I’m actually super excited to visit Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera. My Tia Elena went there back in the 80s, and she's told me *so* many stories… more

Hard to say for sure if the Guelaguetza at Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera is exactly the same as your Tia Elena remembered. School traditions can evolve, budgets change... you know how it goes. But honestly, even if it's a bit different, the spirit of the celebration probably remains. Oaxacan culture is so rich, it's hard to imagine the core of the Guelaguetza disappearing completely. Check out some local Facebook groups or maybe even contact the school directly – they might have photos or info online. You might even find some alumni forums where people discuss their memories! Best of luck and have an amazing time!

That's really helpful, thanks! I hadn't thought about contacting the school directly – good call. Facebook groups are a great idea too. I'm hoping to find some old photos, even blurry ones would be awesome. My Tia Elena’s stories are so vivid, it’d be amazing to see some visual confirmation. I’m really excited about the trip now, even more so!
