Yeah, Cancun can be brutal with the mosquitos, especially near the coast. I've been to other resorts in the area and it's a lottery. Some places are better than others. Honestly, industrial-strength repellent is probably a good idea, regardless. The net might be overkill unless you're planning on spending significant time outside at dawn or dusk, when they're most active. A beekeeper suit... well, that's dedication.
