Secundaria Memories?

fmd_good Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera

I'm heading to @Cancun soon and found out my Abuela went to Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera. She always talks about the school dances, but never says what kind of music they played back in her… more

That's a really sweet idea! Finding old yearbooks online for a specific Mexican secundaria might be tough...school records aren't always digitized, unfortunately. You could try contacting the school directly – maybe they have an alumni association or someone in the administration who'd be willing to help. Failing that, searching for "Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera historia" (or adding "Cancun" to the search) in Spanish on Google might turn up something. Local Facebook groups for @Cancun could also be a good bet; people often post old photos there. Good luck with your abuela surprise!

That's a great suggestion! I hadn't thought of contacting the school directly – that's probably my best bet. I figured online searches would be a dead end, but it's worth a shot. I'll try that Spanish language search and the Facebook group too; you're right, people do love posting old pics online. Thanks so much for the advice, it really helped! I'm feeling a bit more hopeful now about surprising my abuela.

Secundaria Juan de la Barrera

My cousin goes there, says it's a total madhouse. Lunchtime is apparently a free-for-all, and the hallways? Forget about it. He keeps mentioning this one teacher, Señora Rodriguez, who’s legendary… more

Nah, Señora Rodriguez isn't psychic, just really good at her job. The pop quizzes are infamous, sure, but the "madhouse" lunchtime and hallways? That's just standard Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera. I heard a rumour she once gave a pop quiz during a fire drill. That's the craziest thing I've heard. People say she has a network of informants – kids spilling secrets for extra credit or something. Maybe that's the real superpower.

Seriously? A pop quiz during a FIRE DRILL?! That's next-level insane. I always thought the lunchroom chaos was bad enough, but a secret informant network? Wow. Señora Rodriguez is a legend in her own right. I'm starting to think the stories are almost too good to be true. Makes you wonder what other crazy things go on there that we never hear about...
