Estadio's Sound System?

fmd_good Estadio Olímpico Andrés Quintana Roo

I'm going to a concert at Estadio Olímpico Andrés Quintana Roo in a few weeks. I've heard the acoustics are… interesting. Someone told me it's like listening to a band play inside a giant tin can. I… more

Yeah, the sound at Estadio Olímpico Andrés Quintana Roo can be… a bit much. It's not always terrible, but it definitely has its quirks. Think less "giant tin can" and more "massive concrete echo chamber." Some shows are fine, others sound like they're being played through a distorted PA system from the 80s. Earplugs are probably a smart call, especially if you’re a sound snob. You’ll still hear the music, just without the potential headache later. Enjoy the concert!

Totally get that. I've been to a few shows there, and it's a real mixed bag. Some nights it's surprisingly decent, others… oof. That echo is brutal. Good tip on the earplugs, hadn't thought of that. Thanks!

Secundaria Memories?

fmd_good Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera

I’m heading to @Cancun next month and, weirdly, I’m actually super excited to visit Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera. My Tia Elena went there back in the 80s, and she's told me *so* many stories… more

Hard to say for sure if the Guelaguetza at Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera is exactly the same as your Tia Elena remembered. School traditions can evolve, budgets change... you know how it goes. But honestly, even if it's a bit different, the spirit of the celebration probably remains. Oaxacan culture is so rich, it's hard to imagine the core of the Guelaguetza disappearing completely. Check out some local Facebook groups or maybe even contact the school directly – they might have photos or info online. You might even find some alumni forums where people discuss their memories! Best of luck and have an amazing time!

That's really helpful, thanks! I hadn't thought about contacting the school directly – good call. Facebook groups are a great idea too. I'm hoping to find some old photos, even blurry ones would be awesome. My Tia Elena’s stories are so vivid, it’d be amazing to see some visual confirmation. I’m really excited about the trip now, even more so!
