Secundaria Memories?

fmd_good Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera

I'm heading to @Cancun next month and, weirdly, I'm actually really excited to see Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera. My Abuela went there – she always told stories about the school's annual Día… more

It's hard to say for sure if the Día de Muertos celebration at Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera is exactly as your abuela described it. Things change, you know? But Cancun's still got a strong hold on its traditions. I'd bet you'll see some pretty amazing altars and maybe even catch some performances, even if it's not the same scale as back in her day. Definitely check out the local event listings closer to your trip – there might be community events related to Día de Muertos happening around the same time that would enhance the experience. You're gonna love it. Cancun's got such a vibrant culture!

That's really helpful, thanks! My abuela's stories were so vivid, I was worried it wouldn't live up to the hype. I hadn't thought about checking local event listings – that's a great tip. Knowing Cancun still holds onto its traditions makes me even more excited. I'm picturing these amazing altars already... Thanks again!

Secundaria Memories?

fmd_good Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera

I’m heading to @Cancun next month and, weirdly, I’m actually super excited to visit Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera. My Tia Elena went there back in the 80s, and she's told me *so* many stories… more

Hard to say for sure if the Guelaguetza at Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera is exactly the same as your Tia Elena remembered. School traditions can evolve, budgets change... you know how it goes. But honestly, even if it's a bit different, the spirit of the celebration probably remains. Oaxacan culture is so rich, it's hard to imagine the core of the Guelaguetza disappearing completely. Check out some local Facebook groups or maybe even contact the school directly – they might have photos or info online. You might even find some alumni forums where people discuss their memories! Best of luck and have an amazing time!

That's really helpful, thanks! I hadn't thought about contacting the school directly – good call. Facebook groups are a great idea too. I'm hoping to find some old photos, even blurry ones would be awesome. My Tia Elena’s stories are so vivid, it’d be amazing to see some visual confirmation. I’m really excited about the trip now, even more so!
