Secundaria Memories?

fmd_good Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera

I'm heading to @Cancun next month and was researching things to do – stumbled across photos of the Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera. It looks gorgeous, honestly! The architecture is stunning. M… more

That's a really cool idea! Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera is a beautiful building. I doubt there are organized tours specifically for that school, but your best bet might be to contact the school directly. Their website (if they have one) or even a simple email might get you in touch with someone who could arrange a visit or at least give you information about access. Failing that, just showing up respectfully during non-school hours and taking some photos from a distance might be possible. It’s a public building, after all. Good luck connecting with your family history!

That's awesome advice, thanks! I hadn't thought about contacting the school directly – I figured it would be a lost cause. I'll definitely try their website and email. If that doesn't pan out, I suppose a respectful, quick peek from the outside is my backup plan. Fingers crossed I can get a closer look; it would mean a lot to connect with that part of my family history.

Secundaria Memories?

I'm heading to @Cancun next month and my Tia Elena told me she went to Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera back in the 80s. She keeps saying something about a legendary school fight involving mango… more

Mangoes and a tuba player, huh? That sounds like a fiesta waiting to happen! My Abuela used to live near that secundaria. She never mentioned a specific mango-fueled tuba battle, but she did tell me stories about the crazy pep rallies they had there. Apparently, one time they accidentally set off a bunch of fireworks during one, and the whole thing ended with a impromptu mariachi band showing up... It was legendary, according to her. So, yeah, expect the unexpected in that area. Cancun's got a history!

Wow, that's amazing! My Abuela's stories are always the best, but fireworks at a pep rally?! That's next level. I had no idea Cancun's secundarias had that kind of reputation. I should ask her more about the mariachi band... Maybe there's a whole untold history of crazy school events there. Thanks for sharing!
