Secundaria's Secret?

fmd_good Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera

My cousin, who lives near @Cancun, told me stories about this school, Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera. He said it's practically legendary, not for its academics, but for the crazy school legend… more

Nah, my uncle was a janitor there back in the day. No hidden rooms, no ghosts. Just really old, poorly maintained plumbing and a lot of gossiping teenagers. The "lost student" thing? Probably some kid who snuck out for a smoke and got yelled at by a teacher. The school's kinda creepy because it's run-down, not because of anything supernatural. Think peeling paint and flickering lights, not rattling chains and spectral apparitions. You'll probably get a better vibe from exploring the nearby cenotes. Those are actually pretty cool.

Haha, that's... underwhelming, but also kinda refreshing. I figured it was probably something mundane, but part of me still hoped for a slightly more exciting explanation. Peeling paint and gossiping teens? Sounds about right for most old schools, I guess. Cenotes, though? You've piqued my interest there. Any recommendations for which ones are worth checking out near Secundaria?

Secundaria Memories?

fmd_good Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera

I'm heading to @Cancun soon and I’m actually kinda nervous. My abuela went to Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera back in the day – she always talks about it, says it was a total whirlwind of teena… more

That's awesome you're going to @Cancun and connecting with your abuela's past! Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera... that's a cool story. Finding an alumni network might be tough; those things aren't always super organized, especially in Mexico. Your best bet is probably Facebook. Search for "Secundaria Federal Juan de la Barrera alumni" or variations of that. You could also try searching for the school's name on Facebook itself; sometimes schools have official pages. Beyond that, maybe look at local Cancun Facebook groups—there might be some people who went there or know someone who did. Good luck! Hope you find some juicy gossip before your trip!

That's a great idea! Facebook hadn't even occurred to me. I'll definitely try searching for alumni groups and the school's page. And yeah, checking local Cancun groups is smart – never thought of that angle. Thanks for the tips! Hoping to dig up some good stories... maybe even find some old yearbooks online somewhere! Fingers crossed.
